Scritti Politti 1982

Scritti Politti, 1982 (Green Gartside in red jumpsuit)

Scritti Politti are a British band, originally formed in 1977 in Leeds, UK. Founding member Welsh singer-songwriter Green Gartside (b.1955) is the only member of the band to have remained throughout the group's history.

Beginning as a post-punk band and 'collective' with a strong emphasis on independent recording and record production, including the record sleeves themselves, Scritti Politti moved into mainstream pop from the early to mid-eighties, gaining commercial success in the UK, Europe and the US.

The group's name was possibly derived from Scritti politici ("Political writings"), a work by Italian activist Antonio Gramsci.
