Dreaming of Me is the title of a song recorded by British group Depeche Mode and released as their debut single on Mute records in February 1981. The song was written by band founder-member Vince Clarke.

Single release[]

The song was released as a 7" single with another Clarke composition Ice Machine on the B side. Both tracks were produced by Depeche Mode & Daniel Miller at Blackwing Studios in London.

  • B. Ice Machine

Further releases[]

Both tracks remained exclusive to this 7" release for many years as they were not included on the group's debut album, released later in 1981.

Dreaming of Me was included on Depeche Mode's first compilation album The SIngles 81-85, also issued on CD.

Both songs were released on a mini-CD replica single in Germany in 1988 and on a UK CD re-issue of Speak & Spell the same year. These discs carried two slightly longer versions of both songs which do not fade out as they do on the 7".

The single versions were made available on CD in 1996, as part of the DM Singles re-release set, and likewise in the DMBX1 singles box set in 2004.

Live performances[]

Although Dreaming of Me was part of Depeche Mode's live setlists until around 1983 [1] there are no official live recordings avaialable.

A live recording of Ice Machine was included on the 12" issue of the Depeche Mode Single Blasphemous Rumours/Somebody, issued in 1984 (12 BONG 07). It was recorded live at Empire Theatre in Liverpool on 29 September 1984.
